Historically, Haute-Saône owns both a rich and very diversified industrial fabric. Nowadays industry still holds an important weight in the economy of the département: 40% of working people.
The 5 main industrial sectors are:
- metal-working and mechanical engineering (39% of industrial employment),
- automotive industry that represents 27% thanks to the presence of PSA Peugeot Citroën in Vesoul,
- wood industry (19%),
- food industry (7%),
- plastics processing and chemistry industries (6%).
Haute-Saône is part of the 7 national territories which are involved and brought together under the "Ecoterritoires" certification. This label is aimed at promoting the development of firms whose activity is connected to sustainable development (eco-industry, renewable energies, eco-construction...).
The territories with the "Ecoterritoires" certification help the companies involved in sustainable development by assisting them free of charge with their plans to invest and to set up a business: search for premises and land, aid and financing packages, recruitment, market opportunities...

La Haute-Saône fait partie des 7 territoires nationaux engagés et regroupés sous le label ‘'Ecoterritoires'' pour favoriser le développement des entreprises dont l'activité est liée au développement durable.(éco-industrie, énergies renouvelables, éco-construction...)

Les Territoires sous ce label s'engagent à aider les entreprises impliquées en faveur du développement durable en les accompagnant gratuitement dans leur projet de développement et d'implantation : recherche de locaux, offres immobilières, aides mobilisables, bassin d'emploi, opportunités de marché…
